After two years - and a reported Euros 350 million renovation, the Carlton Cannes has reopened. Now a Regent Hotel - and owned by the Qatari hospitality company Katara - the Carlton is one of the most famous hotels in the world - thanks to the Cannes Film Festival. Opened in 1912, the Carlton Cannes - previously branded InterContinental - shut in 2020 and has undergone a major transformation.
Officially a historic monument, the hotel that sits at 58 boulevard de la Croisette - just a few hundred steps from the Palais where the Cannes Film Festival is held - features 332 rooms & suites, 72 with a view of the Mediterranean and 37 residences. Guests can expect use of the largest infinity swimming pool in Cannes, spa, cabanas and sunbathing decks. Of course, the dining will be fine - with three bars & restaurants and the famous Beach Club. The hotel's historic exterior has been preserved and the “Carlton Hotel” signature on the facade has been restored.
The Cannes Film Festival - helds this year from May 16 to 27th, was founded in 1939. The hotel has hosted film stars including Robert De Niro and Scarlett Johanssen and President Barack Obama made the hotel his home during the G20 summit in 2011. Music fans will recognise the hotel from Elton John's music video to his 80s hit “I'm Still Standing”.
