Brussels Airlines - new uniforms

Brussels Airlines has unveiled its new uniforms for cabin, cockpit, and ground operations staff.

Belgium's national carrier selected Gabrielle Szwarcenberg, a promising designer from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, along with several renowned Belgian brands, showcasing its commitment to Belgian culture and heritage. The uniforms incorporate innovative, sustainable materials like grape and cacti fibers - and a style guide has been thoroughly updated to be more inclusive.

Beginning 1st March, over 2,600 staff members in cabin, cockpit, and ground operations will don these uniforms.

The uniforms feature a dark navy blue colour with Champagne accents. Designed to complement Brussels Airlines' branding updated in November 2021, the collection draws inspiration from the chic airline uniforms of the sixties, resulting in modern yet classic styles, including turtlenecks and A-line dresses. These uniforms are designed for comfort and to flatter various body types and ages. The collection introduces unisex options and comfortable sneakers alongside vegan-leather shoes. The two-year design process involved surveys, workshops, and sessions with frontline employees, who had a say in the final design.

Every supplier in this project committed to minimising environmental impact during the production of the uniforms and accessories. The materials, including BCI-certified cotton, mulesing-free wool, and innovative cacti and grape leather, align with Brussels Airlines' sustainability strategy. All production sites were scrutinised for sustainability and fair working conditions.

The new Brussels Airlines rules unify hair, makeup, and jewelry guidelines for all employees, irrespective of gender. Makeup and nail polish, now optional for all, must adhere to specific styles and color schemes. Hair guidelines are also gender-neutral, requiring longer hair to be tied up or in a bun for safety. Additionally, visible tattoos are permitted under certain conditions.
