British Airways passengers using the airline's elite Concorde Room at Terminal 5 at London Heathrow can now indulge in the perfectly crafted martini before takeoff.
The airline has unveiled a specialised martini mixer - a meticulously engineered mixer crafted from machined stainless steel which comes with a custom moving bar that features built-in scales for precise measurement of ingredients.
The mixer - created in collaboration with British aviation and adventure company Bremont and design firm CALLUM - sports a turbine-inspired design and uses a motorised paddle to stir the cocktail at an optimal speed of 120-160 RPM. This enhances the citrus and floral notes of the martini, striking the ideal balance between aeration, dilution, and cooling, culminating in the Turbine Martini.
The Turbine Martini is a contemporary spin on the timeless cocktail and was designed by the airline’s award-winning partner mixologist, Mr Lyan (Ryan Chetiyawardana). This unique drink pairs classic vermouth, custom bitters, and a tailored garnish with Aviation American Gin, the airline’s latest gin partner.
Staff at the Concorde Room will mix and pour this signature martini right at passengers' seats.
Apart from enhancing the Concorde Room, British Airways is investing in refurbishments and additions across its lounge network- including that at Terminal 3 at Heathrow. These also include a newly opened Whispering Angel bar at Heathrow's Terminal 5B , updated cabana spaces with day beds and work areas, and improved furnishings. International lounges, including those in Edinburgh and Seattle, are also getting upgrades, including new bars and enhanced food offerings.
The airline is also expanding its beverage options with the introduction of the full range of Don Julio Tequilas in its UK lounges and will be the first airline to offer 1942 Añejo tequila both on the ground and in First Class flights starting September.
