AA says "non" to Champagne but "ciao" to sparkling Italian wine

In what is being seen as a cost-cutting exercise, American Airlines will no longer be serving Champagne to its Business Class and First Class passengers.

Instead, premium passengers will be served Ferrari Brut - an Italian sparkling wine from Trento. Although produced with 100% Chardonnay grapes and using the Metodo Classico production method (the Italian equivalent of Champagne) - it does not have the same status of - for instance - Bollinger La Grande Année 2008 that has been previously offered by the airline.

Earlier this year, Finnair announced that it would no longer be serving Champagne in Business Class for short-haul flights but has continued offering its passengers Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Brut Champagne on long-haul. On the wine menu for Finnair short-haul Business Class passengers is Bernard-Massard Cuvée de l’Ecusson from Luxembourg - made from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Riesling grapes.
